David Baecher has been the coordinator for the Merrymeeting Gleaners for the past 2 years and has more recently taken on the responsibility of being Food Bank Manager at Midcoast Hunger Prevention. Before moving into the non-profit world, he worked on local farms for ten years. His past experience in agriculture and current role managing a Food Bank gives him a broad perspective for the way that gleaning fits into a complicated food system.
Today, using just a little bit of math, we’ll take a look at an alternative way to measure gleaning success that places consistency over total weights. We will explore one simple equation and discuss structuring a gleaning program with this metric of success in mind.
