Laurie J. Beyranevand is the Director of the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems
and the Pescosolido Professor of Food and Agricultural Law and Policy at Vermont Law and
Graduate School. For over a decade, Laurie has worked on the project team for the National
Gleaning Project, which provides provides information on national and state laws and
regulations pertaining to gleaning, food recovery, and food donation; an interactive map of
gleaning and food recovery organizations across the country; and reports and research created
by the National Gleaning Project team.
This session addresses some of the common legal issues that arise for gleaning organizations and entities, including food safety liability risks and the status of volunteers. The session discusses updates to the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Law.
