Madi and Alden from Food Forward explores how we can create a positive and fulfilling experience for all of our volunteers while managing expectations and delegating responsibility Join us in our journey of cultivating well-rounded gleaning opportunities for all types of volunteers.
Madi Kay has been engaging gleaners with Food Forward as Volunteer Coordinator for a little over 2 years now. Throughout her career, she’s delved into a number of different avenues for improving our food system—startups, food cooperatives, farms, nonprofits, mutual aid groups—and knows that dedicated volunteers are the heartbeat of food recovery work! As
Volunteer Coordinator for the Food Forward Community Programs Department, Madi focuses on creating a fruitful volunteer program – including volunteer recruitment, stewardship, and retention of our dedicated crew.
Alden is the Backyard Harvest Coordinator in LA County at Food Forward, where she has been coordinating volunteer-led harvests across the city for the past year. She works with and harvests alongside volunteers who want to be involved in food recovery from where produce all starts – in the earth and on the trees! Alden trains volunteer Harvest Leaders to organize their own harvests and prepares fruit donors to welcome volunteer harvest teams to their yards, vines, and trees.
